कळमेश्वर : रस्ते अपघातांमध्ये होणारी जीवितहानी रोखण्यासाठी वाहतुकीचे नियम पाळणे, अपघातग्रस्तांना तातडीने मदत करणे आणि समाजात रस्ता सुरक्षेबाबत जागरूकता निर्माण करणे आवश्यक आहे. यासाठी प्रत्येकाने संवेदनशीलतेने पुढाकार घेऊन सामूहिक प्रयत्न करावेत, असे आवाहन महामार्ग पोलीस नागपूर विभागाचे पोलीस अधीक्षक डॉ. लोहित मतानी यांनी केले. गुरुनानक इन्स्टिट्यूट ऑफ टेक्नॉलॉजी, गुरुनानक इन्स्टिट्यूट ऑफ इंजिनिअरिंग अँड टेक्नॉलॉजी आणि देव्यांशी फाउंडेशन यांच्या संयुक्त विद्यमाने ९ ऑक्टोबर रोजी कळमेश्वर तालुक्यातील दहेगाव येथील संस्थेच्या परिसरात ‘ऑपरेशन यू-टर्न’ या रस्ता सुरक्षा अभियानांतर्गत जनजागृती कार्यक्रम आयोजित करण्यात आला. महामार्ग पोलीस केंद्र खुर्सापार यांच्या सहकार्याने झालेल्या या कार्यक्रमात सुमारे ३०० विद्यार्थी, शिक्षक, महामार्ग पोलीस कर्मचारी आणि ३० हून अधिक मृत्युंजय दूतांसह एकूण ४०० जण सहभागी झाले. डॉ. मतानी यांनी रस्ते अपघातांमुळे होणाऱ्या जीवितहानीचे गांभीर्य स्पष्ट केले. भारतात दरवर्षी सुमारे दीड लाख लोकांचा रस्ते अपघातांत मृत्यू होतो, तर पाच लाखांहून अधिक लोक जखमी होतात, असे त्यांनी नमूद केले. अपघातग्रस्तांना वेळेत मदत मिळाल्यास अनेकांचे प्राण वाचू शकतात. केंद्र सरकारच्या ‘सडक सुरक्षा मित्र’ योजनेच्या माध्यमातून युवकांना प्रशिक्षण देण्यात येणार असून, विद्यार्थ्यांनी स्वयंप्रेरणेने या उपक्रमात सहभागी व्हावे, असे आवाहनही त्यांनी केले.
कार्यक्रमात पोलीस उपअधीक्षक सुनीता मेश्राम, गुरुनानक इन्स्टिट्यूटचे सहसंचालक सरदार रबज्योतसिंग तुली, कळमेश्वरचे पोलीस निरीक्षक मनोज काळबांडे, गुरुनानक इन्स्टिट्यूट ऑफ टेक्नॉलॉजीचे प्राचार्य डॉ. सुधीर शेळके, गुरुनानक इन्स्टिट्यूट ऑफ इंजिनिअरिंगचे प्राचार्य डॉ. किशोर पोरटे, एनएसएस समन्वयक प्रा. मरकड आणि देव्यांशी फाउंडेशनचे संचालक मंगेश गमे उपस्थित होते. यानंतर विद्यार्थ्यांशी प्रश्नोत्तरांच्या माध्यमातून संवाद साधण्यात आला. रस्ता सुरक्षेच्या क्षेत्रात प्रत्यक्ष काम करताना येणाऱ्या अडचणींवर चर्चा करून त्यांचे निराकरण करण्यात आले. सामाजिक कार्यकर्ते डॉ. राज दिवाण, मृत्युंजय दूत संजय गायकवाड, प्रफुल ताथोडे, रजनीकांत अतकरी, अनुग्रह तिडके यांच्यासह अनेक कार्यकर्त्यांनी सहभाग घेतला.

Road Safety Awareness Through ‘Operation U-Turn’; 400 Participants Take Part

Kalmeshwar: Adhering to traffic rules, providing timely assistance to accident victims, and creating awareness about road safety are essential to preventing loss of life in road accidents. Everyone must take the initiative and work collectively to make roads safer, said Dr. Lohit Matani, Superintendent of Police, Highway Police, Nagpur Division. A road safety awareness programme under the ‘Operation U-Turn’ initiative was organised on October 9 at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology and Guru Nanak Institute of Engineering and Technology in Dahegaon, Kalmeshwar. The programme was jointly organised by the two institutions and Devyanshi Foundation, with the support of Khursapar Highway Police Centre. Around 400 people, including approximately 300 students, teachers, highway police personnel and more than 30 Mrityunjay Doot volunteers, participated in the event.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Matani highlighted the seriousness of fatalities caused by road accidents. He stated that approximately 1.5 lakh people lose their lives in road accidents in India every year, while more than five lakh people sustain injuries. He emphasised that timely assistance to accident victims can help save many lives. He also spoke about the Central Government’s ‘Sadak Suraksha Mitra’ initiative, under which young volunteers will receive training. He appealed to students to voluntarily participate in the initiative and contribute to road safety awareness. The programme was attended by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sunita Meshram, Associate Director of Guru Nanak Institute Sardar Rabjyot Singh Tuli, Kalmeshwar Police Station Inspector Manoj Kalbande, Principal of Guru Nanak Institute of Technology Dr. Sudhir Shelke, Principal of Guru Nanak Institute of Engineering and Technology Dr. Kishor Porte, NSS Coordinator Professor Markad, and Devyanshi Foundation Director Mangesh Game. An interactive question-and-answer session was conducted, during which students discussed challenges faced while working in the field of road safety and received guidance on possible solutions.Social worker Dr. Raj Diwan, Mrityunjay Doot volunteers Sanjay Gaikwad, Praful Tathode, Rajnikant Atkari and Anugrah Tidke, along with several other road safety volunteers, were also present.
