मुंबई, ८ ऑक्टोबर २०२६ : हिंदी आणि मराठी चित्रपटसृष्टीतील आपल्या दमदार अभिनयाने, प्रभावी संवादफेकीने आणि वैशिष्ट्यपूर्ण व्यक्तिमत्त्वाने रसिकांच्या मनावर अधिराज्य गाजवणारे ज्येष्ठ अभिनेते नाना पाटेकर यांचे गुरुवारी (८ ऑक्टोबर) वयाच्या ७५व्या वर्षी निधन झाले. गोव्यातील डोना पाउला येथील निवासस्थानी त्यांना हृदयविकाराचा तीव्र झटका आला. त्यानंतर त्यांना मणिपाल रुग्णालयात नेण्यात आले; मात्र पहाटे ५.२० वाजता डॉक्टरांनी त्यांना मृत घोषित केले. त्यांच्या निधनाने भारतीय चित्रपटसृष्टीवर शोककळा पसरली आहे.

नाना पाटेकर यांचे मूळ नाव विश्वनाथ पाटेकर. १९५१ मध्ये महाराष्ट्रात जन्मलेल्या नानांनी अभिनयाची सुरुवात रंगभूमीपासून केली. रंगभूमीवरील अनुभवाने त्यांच्या अभिनयाला वास्तवतेची धार मिळाली. पुढे त्यांनी हिंदी आणि मराठी चित्रपटांमध्ये स्वतःची वेगळी ओळख निर्माण केली. १९७८ मध्ये प्रदर्शित झालेल्या गमन या चित्रपटातून त्यांनी हिंदी चित्रपटसृष्टीत पदार्पण केले. सुरुवातीच्या काळात छोट्या आणि आव्हानात्मक भूमिका साकारत त्यांनी आपली अभिनयक्षमता सिद्ध केली

१९८९ मध्ये प्रदर्शित झालेल्या परिंदा या चित्रपटाने नाना पाटेकर यांच्या अभिनयाला नवे वळण दिले. त्यांच्या प्रभावी अभिनयाची सर्वत्र चर्चा झाली. त्यानंतर त्यांच्या वाट्याला गंभीर, संवेदनशील आणि आव्हानात्मक भूमिका येऊ लागल्या.

मीरा नायर यांच्या सलाम बॉम्बे! या ऑस्करसाठी नामांकन मिळालेल्या चित्रपटातही नाना पाटेकर यांनी महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका साकारली. त्यांच्या अभिनयाची दखल भारताबाहेरही घेतली गेली. गंभीर आणि वास्तववादी विषय हाताळणाऱ्या चित्रपटांमध्ये त्यांनी प्रभावी भूमिका साकारल्या.

नानांनी केवळ गंभीर भूमिकाच नव्हे, तर विनोदी आणि हलक्याफुलक्या भूमिका देखील तितक्याच ताकदीने साकारल्या. त्यामुळे त्यांच्या अभिनयाची व्याप्ती केवळ एका प्रकारापुरती मर्यादित राहिली नाही.

अग्निसाक्षी, अब तक छप्पन, वेलकम यांसह अनेक चित्रपटांमध्ये त्यांनी वेगवेगळ्या धाटणीच्या भूमिका साकारल्या. त्यांच्या आवाजातील ठामपणा आणि संवादातील नैसर्गिकता हे त्यांच्या अभिनयाचे वैशिष्ट्य ठरले.

अखेरचा दिवस

८ ऑक्टोबर २०२६ रोजी पहाटे गोव्यातील त्यांच्या निवासस्थानी नाना पाटेकर यांची प्रकृती अचानक बिघडली. वृत्तांनुसार त्यांना छातीत तीव्र वेदना जाणवल्यानंतर वैद्यकीय मदत मागवण्यात आली. ते बेशुद्ध अवस्थेत आढळले. त्यांना तातडीने रुग्णालयात नेण्यात आले; मात्र डॉक्टरांच्या प्रयत्नांना यश आले नाही. मणिपाल रुग्णालयाने त्यांच्या निधनाची पुष्टी केली.

महाराष्ट्रात शासकीय इतमामात अंत्यसंस्कार

नाना पाटेकर यांच्या निधनानंतर महाराष्ट्रासह देशभरातून शोक व्यक्त करण्यात आला. राष्ट्रपती द्रौपदी मुर्मू, उपराष्ट्रपती सी. पी. राधाकृष्णन आणि पंतप्रधान नरेंद्र मोदी यांनी त्यांच्या निधनाबद्दल दुःख व्यक्त केले. नानांच्या अभिनयातील वैविध्य, सर्जनशीलता आणि भारतीय चित्रपटसृष्टीतील योगदानाचा त्यांनी गौरव केला.

नाना पाटेकर यांच्यावर पुणे जिल्ह्यातील डोणजे येथील त्यांच्या फार्महाऊसवर शासकीय इतमामात अंत्यसंस्कार करण्यात येणार असल्याचे वृत्त आहे. त्यांच्या पार्थिवाचे अंत्यदर्शन घेण्यासाठी चाहत्यांची मोठी गर्दी होण्याची शक्यता व्यक्त करण्यात आली आहे.

According to reports, he suffered a severe heart attack at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. He was subsequently taken to Manipal Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 5:20 a.m. His demise has cast a pall of grief over the Indian film industry.

From Theatre to the Silver Screen

Nana Patekar’s real name was Vishwanath Patekar. Born in Maharashtra in 1951, he began his acting journey on the stage. His experience in theatre helped shape the realistic and intense style of acting that later became his trademark. He went on to establish a distinctive identity in both Hindi and Marathi cinema.

He made his Hindi film debut with Gaman, released in 1978. During the early phase of his career, he took on several challenging roles and gradually established himself as a versatile performer.

From ‘Salaam Bombay!’ to International Recognition

Nana Patekar also played an important role in Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay!, a film that received an Academy Award nomination. His performance was appreciated beyond India as well. He made a strong impact through films dealing with serious and realistic subjects.

According to reports, he experienced severe chest discomfort and medical assistance was sought. He was found unconscious and was immediately taken to hospital. Despite medical efforts, he could not be revived. Manipal Hospital subsequently confirmed his death.

State Funeral in Maharashtra

Following Nana Patekar’s demise, condolences poured in from across Maharashtra and the country. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over his passing. They paid tribute to his versatility, creativity and contribution to Indian cinema.

Reports stated that Nana Patekar would be cremated with state honours at his farmhouse in Donje, Pune district. A large number of fans were expected to gather to pay their last respects to the veteran actor.
