N7 News Voice
Nagpur to Bhutan & Back: A 4,700 km Tale of Thrill, Grit, and Father-Son Bonding
N7 News Voice : It was 5:30 in the morning. Nagpur, the City of Oranges, was still asleep. A light chill hung in the air as the engine of Dr. Sarang Varudkar’s bike roared to life inside his garage.
Hearing the deep rumble from the exhaust, 12-year-old Advik’s face lit up with excitement. He adjusted his helmet tightly, zipped up his riding jacket, and mounted the bike behind his father, carrying his riding gear. As the intercom turned on, his father's voice echoed in his ears, "Ready for the adventure, champ?"
Pattng his father's shoulder, Advik replied enthusiastically, "Full ready, Baba!"
With a rev of the accelerator, the 'super dad-son duo' left the quiet streets of Nagpur behind and embarked on an unpredictable yet thrilling journey—their destination was the mystical and scenic country of Bhutan, 4,700 kilometers away!
Challenges on the Road and Milestones
The first few days of the journey were far from easy. Leaving Nagpur meant facing heavy highway traffic, body aches from sitting in the same posture for hours, and scorching heat. Yet, there was not a trace of fear in Advik’s mind because his 'superhero' was right in front of him, holding the handlebars firmly and navigating the road.
As they covered the stretch from Nagpur to Siliguri, thousands of kilometers melted away. Slowly, the surrounding geography began to shift. The flat terrain gave way to winding roads and hilly elevations.
Upon reaching Phuntsholing at the India-Bhutan border, they completed the border formalities. The moment they entered Bhutanese territory, the air turned noticeably cooler and a serene quiet settled around them. Towering green mountains, a thick blanket of fog, and peaceful landscapes on both sides of the road washed away all their fatigue in an instant.
A Blanket of Fog, Treacherous Turns, and a Test of Patience
As they headed toward Thimphu and Paro in Bhutan, the weather showcased its unpredictable side. Around one sharp turn, dense fog suddenly engulfed the road, reducing visibility to just a few meters. To make matters trickier, a light drizzle began to fall—with steep mountain cliffs on one side and a sheer drop into a valley on the other!
Advik gripped his father's jacket tightly. Dr. Sarang reduced their speed, turned on the headlight, and systematically navigated each curve with utmost patience and calm.
There was no harsh honking and no rush. Riding through Bhutan's quiet, mesmerizing wilderness, Dr. Sarang spoke to Advik over the intercom: "Look, Advik, in life, when you are surrounded by fog and the road ahead isn't visible, you don't speed up... You just hold your patience and keep moving forward step by step. The path will reveal itself."
Those words stayed etched in Advik's heart. He was learning life lessons on this 4,700-kilometer highway that no textbook could ever teach.
From Ladakh to Bhutan: A Bond Strenghtened by Trust
Just last year, this father-son pair had successfully completed a grueling 23-day, 7,000-kilometer bike expedition to Ladakh. While that journey gave them strength, this Bhutan trip gave their relationship a deeper, beautiful intimacy.
Whether sitting quietly inside the ancient Buddhist monasteries of Thimphu or riding through the lush tea gardens of Darjeeling, they spent hours talking—far away from digital screens and daily distractions. Later, while watching the evening Ganga Aarti on the ghats of Varanasi (Banaras), Advik realized something profound: his dad was no longer just a parent to him; he had become his best friend.
Conquering the Peak and Returning to Nagpur
After 17 days of pure adventure, constantly changing weather, 4,700 kilometers on the road, and a treasure trove of unforgettable memories, their bike rolled back into Nagpur on the 17th day. The satisfaction of accomplishing a grand mission was evident on both their faces.
The people of Nagpur welcomed the duo back with immense pride and appreciation.
"This journey wasn't just about covering a distance of 4,700 km... It was about a father holding his son's hand of trust and showing him the world!"
Dr. Sarang and Advik Varudkar’s thrilling expedition proved once again that when willpower is strong and backed by mutual trust, no mountain is too high to climb!
