नागपूर,ता.२८ : भारतीय बुद्धिबळाच्या पटावर सध्या एका नावाचा बोलबाला आहे – दिव्या देशमुख. नागपूरच्या या १९ वर्षीय तरुणीने नुकतेच FIDE महिला विश्वचषक २०२५ जिंकून इतिहास घडवला आहे आणि या विजयासह तिने अत्यंत प्रतिष्ठेची अशी ग्रँडमास्टर (GM) पदवीही आपल्या नावावर केली आहे! ही पदवी मिळवणारी ती भारताची ८८ वी ग्रँडमास्टर आणि केवळ चौथी भारतीय महिला आहे.
लहानपणापासूनच बुद्धिबळाची जादू
९ डिसेंबर २००५ रोजी जन्मलेल्या दिव्याने वयाच्या अवघ्या पाचव्या वर्षी बुद्धिबळाच्या पटावर आपली पहिली चाल खेळली. तिच्या आई-वडिलांनी (डॉ. जितेंद्र आणि डॉ. नम्रता देशमुख) तिच्यातील या प्रतिभेला लगेचच ओळखले आणि तिला पूर्ण पाठिंबा दिला. लहानपणापासूनच ती अनेक स्पर्धांमध्ये भाग घेऊ लागली आणि लवकरच तिने राष्ट्रीय स्तरावर आपली छाप पाडली.
दिव्याचे शालेय शिक्षण नागपूरमधील भवन्स भगवानदास पुरोहित विद्या मंदिरातून झाले. एकीकडे बुद्धिबळाच्या स्पर्धांसाठी देश-विदेशात प्रवास करत असतानाही, दिव्याने आपले शिक्षण कधीच दुर्लक्षित केले नाही. हॉटेलच्या रूममध्ये किंवा प्रवासातही तिने अभ्यासावर लक्ष केंद्रित केले आणि शालेय परीक्षांमध्येही चांगले गुण मिळवले. सध्या ती दूरशिक्षण पद्धतीने आपले उच्च शिक्षण घेत आहे, जेणेकरून तिला तिच्या बुद्धिबळाच्या कारकिर्दीवर पूर्ण लक्ष केंद्रित करता येईल.
यशाची एक लांब, दैदीप्यमान मालिका
दिव्याच्या नावावर यशाची एक मोठी यादी आहे. केवळ ग्रँडमास्टर पदवीच नाही, तर तिने यापूर्वी २०२१ मध्ये महिला ग्रँडमास्टर (WGM) आणि २०२३ मध्ये आंतरराष्ट्रीय मास्टर (IM) या पदव्याही मिळवल्या आहेत. तिच्या प्रमुख यशांमध्ये हे समाविष्ट आहेत:
विश्व युवा विजेतेपदे: २०१४ मध्ये अंडर-१० आणि २०१७ मध्ये अंडर-१२ गटात तिने विश्व युवा विजेतेपदे जिंकली.

राष्ट्रीय आणि आशियाई विजेतेपदे: २०२२ मध्ये तिने भारतीय महिला बुद्धिबळ अजिंक्यपद, तर २०२३ मध्ये आशियाई महिला बुद्धिबळ अजिंक्यपद जिंकले.
जागतिक दिग्गजांवर विजय: २०२३ च्या टाटा स्टील चेस इंडिया स्पर्धेत तिने कोनेरू हम्पी आणि जागतिक विजेती जू वेनजुन (Ju Wenjun) सारख्या दिग्गज खेळाडूंना पराभूत केले. इतकेच काय, २०२५ मध्ये लंडनमध्ये झालेल्या फिडे वर्ल्ड ब्लिट्झ टीम बुद्धिबळ चॅम्पियनशिपमध्ये तिने जगातील नंबर एक महिला बुद्धिबळपटू हाऊ यिफान (Hou Yifan) हिलाही धूळ चारली. तिच्या या कामगिरीची दखल खुद्द पंतप्रधान नरेंद्र मोदी यांनीही घेतली होती!

A new star is shining brightly on the Indian chess horizon – Divya Deshmukh! This 19-year-old sensation from Nagpur has just carved her name in history by winning the FIDE Women's World Cup 2025. With this monumental victory, she has also earned the coveted Grandmaster (GM) title, making her the 88th Grandmaster from India and only the fourth Indian woman to achieve this prestigious feat.

Born on December 9, 2005, Divya's journey into the world of chess began at the tender age of five. Her parents, Dr. Jitendra and Dr. Namrata Deshmukh, quickly recognized her innate talent and provided unwavering support. From those early days, Divya began competing in numerous tournaments, swiftly establishing her presence on the national stage.
Divya attended Bhavans Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir in Nagpur. Despite her extensive travel across India and abroad for chess competitions, she never let her studies fall behind. She diligently focused on academics even in hotel rooms or during commutes, excelling in her school examinations. Currently, she's pursuing her higher education through distance learning, a strategic choice that allows her to fully dedicate herself to her burgeoning chess career.
A Trailblazing List of Achievements
Divya's list of accomplishments is nothing short of extraordinary. Beyond her recent Grandmaster title, she previously earned the Women Grandmaster (WGM) title in 2021 and the International Master (IM) title in 2023. Here are some highlights of her impressive career:
